Research Library

Research Library Peshawar

Pakistan Society of Criminology, in collaboration with like-minded government officers, researchers, media-men, coloumnists, poets, novelists, university academics and literary figures, has dedicated all its resources to establish a Research Library in Peshawar for students of Master-level and scholars of M Phil, LLM and PhD of all the educational institutions in the Province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. A small building has been acquired for the said “Research Library Peshawar” on Warsak Road, opposite to FATA Secreteriate. The Library is established on “Self-Help” basis by local scholars and practitioners. Scholars have donated their valuable books, theses and journals to the Library.

The President of the Society, Mr. Fasihuddin has donated his personal collection to the Library which consists of a variety of reference books and which are about seven thousands. The Library contains a marvelous and rare collection of books on literature, Islamic Studies, Pakistan Studies, History, Foreign Affairs, International Relations, Political Science, Biographies, Criminology, Policing Science, Sociology, Mysticism, Poetry, Social Work, Philosophy and Dictionaries. Reference books of Urdu, Pashto, Persian and English literature are the most precious assets of the Library.

The Library is established in view of the dire need of research material for scholars of universities and candidates for both central and provincial competitive examinations for civil services. The researchers will find not only high-quality books but also modern reading material latest journals and magazines like Foreign Affairs, Foreign Policy, Newsweek, Time, The Economist, etc. Also, the Library contains the latest journals on literature, and especially the HEC-recognized journals. Sadly to say that Peshawar a city of ----million population doesn’t have a single Library of this kind and nature. The Library is a rich source with a variety of reference material, for indigenous and original research activities on social sciences and literature.

It is pertinent to note that the Advisory Board has no legal or financial responsibility for the Library. The Board provides facilitation, support, patronage and guidance to the Library, in addition to their voluntary individual donation of kind/cash.

The Library is still in need more reference books, certain modern equipments, establishment and operational cost. In view of the increasing interest of young scholars and researchers, there is a need for expansion and construction of an auditorium in the Library for purpose of talks and lectures by experts and professionals.
